Cookie & Privacy Policy Recommendation: Iubenda

If you have a website, you need a cookie and privacy policy.

Regardless of where you are based, if you have users in the EU (which everyone will), you need to inform them of what cookies are dropping on their computer (and get their consent to do so). This can be a real headache, as almost every site drops cookies no matter what you do.

This is because cookies are used for everything from making a website run to analytics to reporting on advertising.

We use Iubenda to manage our Cookie Policy and Privacy Policy and highly recommend them. It is frankly too stressful a task to deal with without them, as they are both incredibly convenient and cost-effective.

If you want to see an example of Iubenda’s work, you can find our full cookie policy here and our privacy policy here. If you click on our cookie policy, you can see that it does two things – it tells you the cookies we are using and how to stop cookies.

You can also see a surprisingly large amount of services dropping cookies through our site. This is despite our efforts to limit it to only what is necessary! This is why we recommend Iubenda. Don’t try to understand the legal nuances of every new service, plugin, and provider you try – get a professional to do it for you!

Cookie & Privacy Policy Recommendation Iubenda

Make life easy for yourself

Although you can copy and paste the privacy and cookie policies from other websites (while editing your details), this leaves you vulnerable when the law changes. With GDPR, CalOPPA, and the ePrivacy Regulation changing the legal landscape for websites, it’s not worth risking getting things wrong. Unless you are an expert in data protection law, why not make life easier for yourself?

Iubenda helps you keep on the right side of the law. They update everything on their end and will email you whenever you need to make any changes with step-by-step instructions on what to do.

Setting up your policy with Iubenda is easier and more comprehensive than I’ve seen elsewhere. They provide a massive checklist of possible services you use for/with your site, and you have to go through and tick the ones you are using. Iubenda has already worked out all the technical details for each one, so all you have to do is tick a box.

If there are any services which you use that aren’t on the list, you can add them too. If you talk to Iubenda about it, they will often tell you what to put for these services and add them to their overall list shortly.

When you’re finished, a tiny bit of code will be generated, which you can then choose where to place on your site. There are simple instructions for each type of implementation, and for many platforms (including WordPress), there is a plugin you can use to make life even easier.

Leave it to the professionals

In this case, I’m talking about you as well as Iubenda. Your job is working on your website, not being a data protection guru. By letting Iubenda take care of your privacy and cookie policy, you can spend more time doing what you’re supposed to. You can also spend less time stressing about something you don’t fully understand.

Iubenda spends all of its time thinking about privacy and cookie laws. If there is a better way to do things, they’ll work on doing it. They are constantly testing new cookie solutions (such as how to make AdSense personalised ads only serveĀ after someone has agreed), and you can choose to be on the cutting edge with them. You can also choose to do the minimum possible while staying legal, and Iubenda will help you with that too.

If you need to contact them, you can email or live chat, and they will always do their best to help you.

Iubenda reduces stress for website owners. It’s as simple as that. If you want a cookie solution and a privacy policy that you can completely trust, choose Iubenda. If you want access to people who know about cookie and privacy laws (and will help you), choose Iubenda.
