Often referred to as an Email Marketing List. A list of email addresses that a company gathers (and keeps) that they can email for one reason or another.
Since the introduction of GDPR, when collecting email addresses from Europeans you need to get explicit consent for what that email address is to be used for. This means that you may not ask for an email address in order to confirm a sale, but then email them with marketing messages.
You must only use emails gathered for the things the user has given consent for, and you must always use opt-in consent – not opt-out (as in people must actively agree to something, not untick a box to say they don’t want it).
