Make Good

A Make Good (or MG) is when a Publisher/Ad Network under-delivers on an Ad Campaign, so provides compensation in the form of more inventory at a later date (eg “This IO has 2 million paid impressions and a Make Good for 2,000 impressions from the campaign last month”).

 


Marketer

A marketer is someone who tries to increase and improve awareness of a product or company.

 


Marketing Channel

A Marketing Channel is a way to advertise something. For example, you could refer to online advertising in general as a channel, or CPC campaigns as a channel, or technology websites as a channel.

 


Med Rec

In the US, in online adverising a Med Rec means a 300 Pixels (wide) by 250 pixels (tall) ad unit. Also known as an MPU or Medium Rectangle.

Metrics

Metrics are measurable statistics which are used in online advertising to improve performance such as CTR or CPC.

 


MG

Microsite

A Microsite is a website made for a specific purpose, often by a company that already has a website. They can be a small part of the larger site, or contained on a separate URL. For example a soft drink company may launch a competition, and so create a Microsite which deals only with that competition. Microsites can be very effective ways of advertising, as they can look and feel radically different than a companies main website, and be much more focussed.

 


Mid-Page Unit

A Mid-Page Unit (or MPU) is a 300 Pixels (wide) by 250 pixels (tall) Ad Unit mainly known as an MPU, Med Rec or Medium Rectangle.

Mid-Roll

A Mid-Roll ad is a video ad which comes up during a video which a user has loaded, or in-between levels on a flash game.

Minimum CPM

This is the Minimum CPM amount you will accept for Ad Impressions. It is often an option in Ad Network UIs, or agreed contractually with an Ad Network.

 


Minimum Guarantee

A Minimum Guarantee (occasionally called an MG), is an amount an Ad Network contractually agrees to pay a Publisher (monthly/quarterly or annually). It is usually conditional on the publisher hitting Unique User / Ad Impression goals.

 


Mobile Advertising  

Ads on mobile phones (called cell phones in the US).

Modified Tweet

A Modified Tweet (or MT) is a form of Retweet on Twitter, in which changes have been made (often to conserve space).

 


Monetized

If something is Monetized that means that it has been set up so that money is earned from it. For example a webpage with ads on it has been monetized.

 


Monster MPU

A Monster MPU is a 300 Pixels (wide) by 600 Pixels (tall) Ad Unit.
